Your first visit: what to expect

We know that making that first appointment takes a bit of courage, particularly when the symptoms you’re dealing with feel embarrassing or very personal.

We want you to know that we talk about these things every day. Our friendly team of BetterPelvi specialists have, for the most part, lived through similar and distressing conditions; so we’ll meet you where you’re at, with compassion and empathy.

Equally, our mission is to normalise conversations that delve below the belt, because they affect most of us physically, sexually, socially and psychologically.

Step 1: Your consultation

We start with a conversation. Using the BetterPelvi questionnaire, we’ll talk through your symptoms, your medical history, and how your pelvic floor is affecting your daily life. This helps us understand your situation properly and recommend the right treatment approach for you.

Nothing you share will surprise us. We’ve heard it all, and we’re here to listen and help.

Step 2: Pelvic floor strength test

Non-invasive and painless. We will test before and after the BetterPelvi chair trial to evaluate how your pelvic floor responds to treatment.

The test takes just a moment and involves gentle pressure on the shoulders to assess pelvic stability. Most patients are surprised by how much they can feel the difference before and after even a single session.

Step 3: Your taster session on the chair

Once we’ve talked things through, you’ll have a short taster session on the BetterPelvi chair. You stay fully clothed – just sit down, relax, and let the technology do its work.

You’ll feel a gentle pulsing or contracting sensation in your pelvic floor. It’s a strange feeling the first time – not painful, just unfamiliar. The taster gives you a real sense of what treatment feels like, so you can make an informed decision about whether to continue.

Step 4: Your personalised recommendations

Based on your questionnaire results and what you’ve shared with us, we’ll recommend a treatment protocol – the estimated number of sessions expected to produce lasting improvement for your specific situation.

Most patients are recommended either 20 or 30 sessions, attended twice a week. Some individuals with longer-standing conditions or prolapse benefit from longer packages, which also have the very best value for money, so that you can focus on your goal of getting better rather than the bill. We’ll be transparent about the number of sessions expected based on similar cases. In the case of prevention, for those who wish to future-proof their pelvic floor health, a package of 10 sessions may be appropriate.

We humans have very individual reactions to treatment. While we can boast great results from the BetterPelvi chair, we can never guarantee a specific number of sessions. Our in-house healthcare practitioner will benchmark progress and re-evaluate outcomes and protocols as needed. The advantage of having touch-points with a practitioner trained in medical sciences is that we are often able to provide additional or alternative treatment under one roof.
